Atlantis Project Fellowship where fellows are able to witness the practice of medicine in a global setting. This program is for students who are enrolled in or recently graduated from a college/university who are in good standing with the latest college/university attended and enrolled in any degree program on a path leading to a health related career.

Basic Science Programs, sponsored by the Vanderbilt Summer Science Academy (VSSA). This program is for students interested in pursuing a PhD or MD-PhD. However, there are many options within this program based on the student’s background and research interests.

Combined Summer Undergraduate Research Opportunity, sponsored by the University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS). This program is for those who are at least 18 years old, have proof of health insurance coverage and are not receiving funding from any other source during the program.

The Courtier Program Summer Service-Learning Internship, sponsored by Frontier Nursing University. This program is for students interested in public health, health care, social work or related fields, committed to serving rural and underserved populations. Formal training in healthcare is not required.

Gateways to the Laboratory Summer Program, sponsored by the Tri-Institutional MD-PhD Program in New York City. This program is for freshman & sophomores who are from underrepresented minority, disabled and/or disadvantaged backgrounds and wish to pursue the combined MD-PhD degree.

Michigan Health Sciences Career Development Academy, sponsored by the University of Michigan’s Office for Health Equity & Inclusion. This program is for juniors, seniors or recent graduates, self-identified as educationally, socially or economically disadvantaged OR demonstrated commitment to serve undeserved populations within the U.S. A minimum GPA & certain classes are required.

Michigan Health Sciences Undergraduate Research Academy, sponsored by University of Michigan’s Office for Health Equity & Inclusion. This program is for students who have completed their first year of college. A minimum GPA is required.

Pritzker School of Medicine Experience in Research (PSOMER), sponsored by the National Institute of Health and held on the University Chicago Campus. This program is for college seniors or  post baccalaureate students who are from disadvantaged backgrounds and/or who represent groups that are underrepresented in health related sciences and medicine.

The Rural Immersion Institute of the North (RIIN) Program, sponsored by the Alaska Area Health Education Centers (AHEC). This program is for undergraduate juniors, seniors, gap year students, and professionals returning to graduate school in the full spectrum of pre-professional health careers.

Rural Premedical Internship Program, sponsored by Michigan State’s College of Human Medicine. This program is for students who have completed at least 4 semesters of undergraduate education with preference given to rural students from Michigan who are interested in renaming in the state for medical training and eventual rural practice.

Short Term Educational Program (STEP), sponsored by the University of Michigan. This program is for any student that is currently enrolled in a degree granting college or university. Preference will be given to students with strong academic performance in science courses and relevant laboratory experience.

Summer Medical and Dental Education Program (SMDEP), sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the AAMC & the ADEA. This program is for freshmen and sophomores interested in careers in medicine or dentistry, although whether or not you identify with a group that is racially/ethnically underrepresented in medicine and/or dentistry, come from an economically or educationally disadvantaged background and/or have demonstrated interest in issues affecting underserved populations will also be considered. A minimum GPA is required. It also takes place at various locations throughout the U.S.

The Summer Premedical Academic Enrichment Program (SPAEP), sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. This program is for college sophomores, juniors and beginning seniors who wish to pursue careers in medicine.

Summer Undergraduate Minority Research Program, sponsored by the Center for Colon Cancer Research (CCCR) at the University of South Carolina. This program is for students who majors related to biomedical science or public health research who identify as an underrepresented minority. A minimum GPA is required.

Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF), sponsored by the University of Michigan. This program is for students interested in research in physiology and/or biomedical sciences.

Summer Undergraduate Research in Physiology (SURP), sponsored by the University of Michigan. This program is for students who have completed their freshman year and are not scheduled to graduate before December 2016, who are interested in pursuing a doctoral degree in one of the University of Michigan’s graduate programs. An interest in academic research and/or teaching as a career is required, along with personal medical/health insurance coverage and identification as an individual from a diverse background that is underrepresented in graduate study in their discipline, an individual with a physical or mental impairment, an individual with a family below the established low-income threshold OR an individual who is first generation to graduate from a four-year college or university. A minimum GPA is required.

The Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP), sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh. This program is designed for undergraduate students considering graduate school or a career in biomedical research. Individuals from groups underrepresented in the sciences are encourage to apply. Preference will be given to those who have completed their sophomore or junior year.

Student Summer Scholars, sponsored by Grand Valley State University’s Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarship. This program is for undergraduate students at GVSU who have not yet completed the requirements for graduation.

Undergraduate Clinical Research Internship Program,  sponsored by the Vanderbilt Summer Science Academy (VSSA). This program is for undergraduate students who have a strong desire to pursue an MD or MD-PhD degree. Preference is given to candidate with prior research experienced and advanced science course work.
